5 ways to make your Valentine’s celebration a healthy one

We all know what a typical Valentine’s Day looks like—chocolates, sweets, and indulgent dinners. It’s understandable; you want to treat your loved one (or yourself) on this special day! But if you’re trying to stay on the healthy side, don’t fear,  you can also treat them by celebrating in a healthy way! Here are a few ideas you can try.

Try healthy, homemade desserts.
Instead of the heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, try making a healthier indulgence for your loved one, like fresh fruit dipped in dark chocolate. Or you could try baking with healthy substitutions like whole-wheat flour, oil instead of butter, and less sugar.

Give a gift that isn’t food.
Sweets and desserts are great, but there are plenty of other gifts that can be more meaningful and health-conscious. Try writing a poem about how you feel about your loved one or put together a scrapbook of memories. You could also treat them to a show or movie they’ve been wanting to see.

Make a healthy, home-cooked dinner.
Cooking at home is a great opportunity to control what and how much you’re eating (plus,  it’s a super cute date idea!). Think about a loved one’s favorite meals and prepare one in a healthier way, cutting back on fat, sugars, and sodium.

Get active on Valentine’s Day.
There are plenty of activities you can do with your loved one to have fun while getting some exercise. Try a new workout class or a dance lesson to learn something new with your partner. If you like the outdoors, try hiking, biking, or even camping this Valentine’s Day.

Give back to the community.
Volunteer together at a local organization or in your neighborhood. Volunteer work is not only good for your community, but it’s good for the soul! It can help you build relationships and boost your mood while lowering your stress levels. And it’s an excellent opportunity for you and your loved one to work together and help others have a festive Valentine’s Day as well.

No matter what you do to celebrate, have a happy and healthy Valentine’s Day!
